Bintan Indonesia - Great for Learning
There's a great kite beach in bintan, Indonesia. Its a 1.5 hour ferry ride from Singapore. This beach is really great for beginners and for learning kite boarding.
The water there is very flat with no waves at all, not even small waves. The bottom is sandy with no stones, rocks or any nasty sea creatures and best of all the water is warm like a baby's bath tub. so you don't need a wetsuit or booties.
Its relatively still a secret spot and usually only Singaporeans will head there for the weekend to kite. The conditions are really good for both learning to ride upwind as well as for praticing freestyle tricks because its so flat.
The best thing is the water is only waist high for hundreds of meters! For learning, your instructor can stand right beside you. And with absolutely no waves, you can fully concentrate on your riding without being knocked about by waves. And when you fall, you simply stand up, relaunch and go again.
If you search the internet to find out more about Bintan, you will probably get the hotels in Bintan Resort. This is not the place. The beach is actually called Trikora Beach and is the beach where the locals go to. The Hotels in Trikora beach are also half the price of Bintan Resort.
Bintan Resorts is a large fenced up area where there are higher class hotels, golf courses and resorts and you pay in Singapore dollars. You must go outside of the resort area to have any flavor of Indonesia.
The season is about to start and ends in early March. So if any of you haeding in this area, why not check it out. Cheers.
